Typhoon Kompasu was downgraded to a severe tropical storm on October 13, as it brought heavy wind and rain to Shenzhen in southeastern China. China’s southern coastal provinces took precautions in advance of the strong winds and rain. Shenzhen shut down schools, construction sites, and tourist attractions in advance of the storm. This video shows heavy rain and wind battering Shenzhen on October 13. The storm brought heavy winds and rain to Hong Kong the same day. Local media reported at least one death due to Kompasu in Hong Kong. The storm earlier brought flooding and powerful winds to the Philippines.
