Frances McDormand and her husband Joel Coen arrived for the premiere of their latest project, The Tragedy Of Macbeth, at the 65th BFI London Film Festival on Sunday. 

The Academy Award winning actress, 64, sported bold lilac hues for the evening at the The Royal Festival Hall, notably a dark purple shawl layered over a navy dress. 

Meanwhile her husband, 66, who joined forces with her to produce the upcoming drama film, dressed in a spruce suit which he teamed with perfectly polished black shoes.

Frances pulled out all the stops for the big night as she stepped out in elegant suede boots and accessorised with a statement red necklace. 

The couple have been married for 37 years and between them have numerous accolades. 

Joel is known for writing and directing an incredible catalogue of films with younger brother Ethan, among them Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski, No Country For Old Men and O Brother, Where Art Thou? 

Frances also worked with the brothers on a string of projects, notably their cinematic debut Blood Simple and 1996 box-office smash Fargo, for which she won the first of her three Academy Awards.

The Tragedy Of Macbeth, which is scheduled for limited release on December 25, is the first first film directed by Joel without Ethan’s involvement. 

Not only did Frances co-produce the latest take on the Shakespearian tragedy, she stepped into a leading role – Lady Macbeth. 

The premise focuses on a Scottish Lord setting out to become the King of Scotland after being convinced it is his destiny by three witches.

Filming commenced in February 2020 but was soon halted due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Production resumed on July 23 2020 and concluded eight days later.

It is scheduled for a limited release on December 25 2021 by A24 prior to streaming on Apple TV+ on January 14 2022.
